Health Care Reform Will Help Job Growth

Many people criticize Health Care Reform for having a negative affect on the economy. Yet there criticisms are false. The Health Care Reform passed by Barack Obama not only will help many people afford healthcare, but it also will create jobs.
The job growth of Health Care is a side affect of the bill.  According to the article. it is likely that the enactment of the current bill will lead to the creation of 250,000-400,000 jobs each year in the United States within the next decade. These jobs would result from the decreased health care costs for employers and the lowered health insurance premiums that would result from the passage of the reform act. An important way to create jobs is to slow the growth of medical spending. If health care cost increases slow down, then businesses will expand employment, and workers will more readily move into those new jobs.
Overall the implentation of healthcare is a smart idea to preserve both the health of the people and create jobs throughout the country.

Why Outsourcing Jobs Should Be Stopped

Outsourcing jobs is one of the biggest job killers in America. Outsourcing basically means rich corporate businessmen building factories outside of America where they pay workers the smallest minimum wage with poor working conditions. They do this to avoid regulations and taxation. The outsourcing also does not benefit American workers, because it leads to unemployment and decreased wages for workers whose jobs are not outsourced.
The only people that outsourcing benefits is the rich employers. This is not fair for everyone and this is a large factor in our unemployment rate. Laborers have absolutely  no rights and are forced to work in poor conditions. One employee of the outsourced factories said that sometimes they worked 11 or 12 days straight, sometimes up to 18 hours a day, as her company rushed to meet deadlines to get new software to customers. These conditions are simply unfair to employees. Also it is unfair to American workers. One example is International Business Machines Corporation. According to Time Magazine, "Even as IBM [International Business Machines Corporation] proceeds with layoffs of up to 13,000 workers in Europe and the United States, IBM  plans to increase its payroll in India this year by more than 14,000 workers." This is proof that outsourcing loses American jobs and something must be done to stop it.
Though it may allow items to be cheaper, outsourcing jobs is simply immoral and wrong. American business is taking advantage of poor countries' lack of regulations and taxes. Something that is economically advantageous for a small group of wealthy people is not always right.

Welfare Reform- Is it necessary?

On Aug. 22, 1996, President Clinton signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. The bill ended the legal entitlement to welfare benefits, established time limits and work requirements for participation in the program, and gave states much more authority to establish other requirements and restrictions.

Most fiscal liberals thought that this would result in financial disaster but the results say differently. As [the Department of] Health and Human Services statistics show, roughly 2.5 million families have left the program, a 57 percent decline (Tanner). The reform helped everyone. According to the Census Bureau, child poverty rates declined from more than 20 percent in 1996 to 17.8 percent today [2006]. Roughly 1.6 million children were lifted out of poverty. Also, since 1996, the poverty rate among black children has fallen. Dependent single mothers, the group most heavily impacted by welfare reform, account heavily for this decline (Tanner).

These facts prove that making reforms to welfare programs will help everyone, especially the recipients of it. Basically, most of those who left welfare found work, and of them, the vast majority work full-time. For these reasons, welfare reform is not only a smart economic idea, but a wise one.

Is welfare reform fair to the recipients of it?

Mandated Healthcare Insurance is Constitutional

With the recent signing of Obamacare, many people argue whether government provided health insurance is constitutional. Republicans say that it is unconstitutional and the government is overstepping its boundaries. The Democrats say that it is constitutional and is necessary for the aid of the working class people.

The truth sides with the Democrats. Government provided health insurance is not unconstitutional. When Republicans argue that the individual mandate is just a tax, they are incorrect. Saying that an individual mandate applies solely to the individual is false. The mandate applies to everyone. Also many Republicans claim the money taxed for the mandate is just a tax for the government. Not necessarily true, it is given to private insurance companies.

For these reasons, claiming that it is unconstitutional is based on misleading information and untrue. As a nation we need to start caring for one another and realizing that the benefits of government provided health insurance are greater than the costs.

Is the mandated health insurance good or bad for America?

Obama and Romney? Obama For Sure!

The overall theme of the 2012 election between Obama and Romney is probably their economic plans, and which one is more beneficial to the economy.Romney's tax plan consists on lower taxes on wealthier people,  and less regulation of business. Obama's plan consists of higher taxes and more regulation. Which one is more applicable in today's economy?

The answer is simple. Obama's plan is much better.

The United States is currently in debt, and there is no mathematical way of removing debt without raising taxes. The debate of where the debt came from is often blamed on Obama, but the 3 trillion in debt originated from Bush's intervention in Iraq.

Both parties are both beginning to see how higher revenue is necessary for the economy.John Boehner, the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, last week said higher revenue is necessary for the economy. This shows how Republicans are beginning to accept the position we are in, and realize the only way to avoid the fiscal cliff is to raise taxes on the rich.

Since Romney has vowed not to raise taxes on the wealthy, Obama's tax plan is more logical.
How can we avoid another recession without raising taxes?

Synthesis and Plan

I have been researching the role of government in certain situations, for example, providing free services, regulating the economy, and what kind of tax system should we have. I have also researched whether the government should regulate globalization. Narrowing down my research to specific topics would probably be the best idea. I will answer the questions raised to me about whether Obama or Romney's tax plan is more beneficial to the economy, and more about how these topics affect our world today.

Globalization- should it be regulated or not?

Globalization of a product is something that can change an entire world depending on its effect. In some cases Globalization has been good in bringing countries out of poverty. In other cases, globalization has caused local economies to suffer. It is certain that Globalization comes with some costs, but are they too big to ignore? Should the government regulate globalization?
One of the major costs of Globalization is outsourcing. When a company outsources it jobs, it moves its work overseas, so it can pay people for labor for less than minimum wage. The studies prove this point. For workers who were displaced from their jobs between 2001-2003, it shows that 35% were unemployed in January 2004, and of the 65% who were employed, only 43% earned at least as much as they did before displacement. This is one of the costs of Globalization. Yet some say outsourcing jobs can be positive. Globalization can help big businesses and consumers: prices move lower for consumers and profits rise for corporations. Are the benefits worth the costs? Some may say yes, others no, and it is still being debated in Congress today.

Regulation- helpful or not?

One of the major topics being debated between Obama and Romney is regulation. When it comes to regulation, the right and left could not differ any more with their political views. While one side (Republicans) believes that regulation will hurt businesses, the other side (Democrats) believe that deregulation will help business and create jobs.
When it comes down to which side is right, the Democrats seem to support a better case for regulation. Regulation saves businesses, as well as consumers' health, rights, worker's rights and the environment. An example of this is the regulation that protected American consumer from a financial collapse. According to US Government Corruption , 2012, "The Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 [also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act] formally repealed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 (also known as the Banking Act of 1933) and related laws, which prohibited commercial banks from offering investment banking and insurance services." The deregulation of banks is what many economists think caused the collapse, including Paul Krugman. Hopefully, American society will realize when it comes to regulation, the Democrats are right.

Are people taxed too high or too low?

The financial crises has made many Americans to be worried about our tax system, and whether taxes are too high or too low. People who think that the taxes are too high think that the costs of the taxes outweigh the benefits of what they get. Due to massive borrowing this year, the federal deficit is expected to run about $1.6 trillion and this guarantees future tax hikes. They also realize the real cost of health care "reform" will start to kick in.  People who think the taxes are too low think differently. They think that we need more services that can be provided with out tax dollars. The US economy continues to be overwhelmed in unemployment. The people think that in order to push up job growth, the government should start a massive public works program funded by taxes on the wealthy and on financial transactions. This economic issue divides many Americans since the two sides are so different.

What role should the government play in the economy?

I chose this topic because this directly affects my life, since my parents income is from owning small business.  The actions by the government can hurt or help by parent's business, which affects my life, since they provide me with the opportunity to go to college.

What I know about this topic is that one political side, Republicans, believe in a regressive tax structure, cutting business regulations, and that the government should not provide free services. The other political side, Democrats, believe in a progressive tax structure, more business regulation, and the government should provide free services. Both of these ideals have facts and historical evidence behind them, and it is hard to find out what I believe in.
